As church media library director I have read many books by an
assortment of authors, some that touched my heart and some I would like to
forget. I became a Christian as a
youth at Harmony Baptist Church near my country home in Bachelor, MO. As a
young, new believer I was fascinated with the book that claims to be the word of
God. So I decided to study it and
let it speak for itself.
What I learned astounded me. We have all heard of money-back guarantees, even lifetime guarantees, but here was a book that came with an eternal guarantee, based upon its inherent life-changing capabilities. If I would faithfully tuck it into my heart, it would turn me into the woman I wanted to be. That was its promise.
The Bible was promising to change me. I resolved not to go to bed until I’d read the Bible. Now, many years later, my resolve is still intact. Granted I have messed up lots of times. But oh, how blessed I’ve been! I didn’t always even understand every verse I read, but it was my job to feed the data to my mind; it’s God’s job to do the processing. He speaks personally through His Word.
“For the Scripture tells us that no one who believes in Christ will ever be disappointed.” – Romans 10:11. I like this Promise. We can receive a word from God any time of the day or night just by opening our Bible.
