Growing Stronger

By Jennifer Silver

I was in Bible study class the other day and we were discussing letting go and letting God do his will when an interesting thought struck me. I remembered being in aerobic class sweating profusely. (Just bear with me.) It was toward the end of class and the instructor was leading us through bicep curls (lifting weights to strengthen your arms). The instructor explained that the muscle does not grow or get stronger when you lift the weight it is when you lower it. She went on to explain that when you lower the weight you need to concentrate and do it purposefully so you do not harm the muscle. WOW!! Once again God used something ordinary in my life to speak to me. He wants me to stop picking up my burdens thinking that my carrying them demonstrates my strength. He wants me to purposefully lay the weight of my burdens at His feet so I will grow and know that my true strength is in Him.

Psalm 18:1

I love you Lord; you are my strength.

Psalm 18:32

God arms me with strength; He has made my way safe.

Isaiah 40: 29-31

He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; He offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted and young men will give up. But hose who wait on the lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will walk and not faint.

Jeremiah 16:19

Lord, you are my strength and fortress, my refuge in the day of trouble…

Philippians 4:13

For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
