Wind
Effect

read Matthew 14:22-33
We have all read the above account when the
disciples are on the stormy Sea of Galilee and they see what they first thought
was a ghost, until Jesus himself answered that they need not fear because it was
Him. Peter, upon the command of
Jesus, got out of the boat and walked toward Jesus on the water.
“But seeing the wind, he became afraid,” and thus he began to sink.
Numerous Bible studies have pointed out
that it was when Peter took his eyes off Jesus that he began to sink, but what
did he turn his eyes to? The Bible
says he saw the wind. Can we really
see the wind, or just the effects of the wind?
The effects of the wind (wild, towering waves) caused Peter to doubt in
what the Lord had commanded him to do. Peter
never saw the actual wind – or cause of the waves, but instead, he saw the
effects, which made him doubt.
How often do we see only doubts or
negatives in our individual situations and not recognize the creator of those
doubts as Satan himself – just because we can’t see him?
Our Lord tells us that we can do all things through Christ who
strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). If we focus on Him, and recognize our doubts
as sent by the evil one, we too will be able to walk on water or whatever else
the Lord had planned for our individual lives.
